Punctuation is one of the most important aspects of written English, and yet it is one that is taken the most lightly. It is, in fact, this feature of writing that gives meaning to the written words… much like pauses and changes in tones of the voice when speaking.
Without punctuation you would not be able to express your feelings in writing not to mention know when to pause or stop or ask a question or yell at someone (a run-on sentence). And without punctuation (a semi-colon) you would not be able to separate independent clauses; do you know what those are? (This is an example of two independent clauses.)
It is important to use proper grammar and punctuation when writing and speaking because that way you accurately convey the message intended for your readers or listeners. Most importantly, proper grammar captures your readers or listeners' attention as they concentrate on what you have and not your mistakes.
